Double Major / Minor

In accordance with Gazi University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations, students who continue their Major Undergraduate Programs in our Civil Engineering Department with outstanding success can receive a second undergraduate diploma or minor certificate, depending on their wishes.

A Double Major Second Degree Program, by definition, is an education and training program that allows students to receive a bachelor's degree from another department that is close to the major undergraduate program in terms of science during their undergraduate education.

A minor Program is an education and training program created to provide students with knowledge in a specific field in another department other than the major undergraduate program.

 1. Double Major Program and Minor Program
 

- Double Major, Secondary and Minor Programs can only be carried out between departments within Gazi University.
- The credit of the Double Major Secondary Undergraduate Program cannot be less than one-third of the graduation credit of the department that implements the program.
- Regardless of the graduation credit of the relevant department in the Double Major Second Undergraduate Program, the lower limit value of the credit required is 36 credits. Minor Program consists of at least 18 credits. The courses to be taken within the Double Major Secondary Program and Minor Program must be non-common courses of the relevant departments.
- Quotas for Double Major, Secondary and Minor Programs are determined by the Senate, provided that they are between 5% and 20% of the number of primary students admitted to the first year of the department that year.
 
1. Application and Admission to the Program
 It is not possible to enrol in more than one Double Major Secondary Program or Minor Program or both Double Major Secondary Program and Minor Program at the same time.

- Undergraduate students who want to apply to Double Major, Secondary or Minor Programs can apply to this program at the beginning of the 3rd and latest 5th semester of their undergraduate education at the university. In order for this application to be accepted, a minimum grade point average is required; 3.50 at the beginning of the 3rd semester, 3.25 at the beginning of the 4th semester, and 3.00 at the beginning of the 5th semester.
- In addition, in order to apply for both programs, it is obligatory to be in the top 20% in the relevant class of the Major Undergraduate Program and to have succeeded in all the courses taken in the Major Undergraduate Program until the application period.
- In order to ensure that the Double Major Secondary Program is carried out in accordance with its objectives, and to assist the students by planning the courses to be taken and the semesters in which these courses will be taken, a consultant determined among the faculty members is assigned by the Head of the Department.
 
2. Program Duration
Students who have the right to graduate from the Major Undergraduate Program but cannot complete the Double Major Secondary or Minor Program are given two additional semesters to complete the Double Major Secondary or Minor Program.

 3. Course Passing Principles
In order for the student to be considered successful in the courses taken from the Double Major, Secondary or Minor Program, he must get a letter grade of at least CC.

 4. Dissolution of Relationship
- A student has the right to leave the Double Major, Secondary or Minor Program if he/she wishes.
- Students who do not fulfil any of the conditions in the regulation are dismissed from the Double Major, Secondary or Minor Program with the decision of the Board of Directors.
- A student who does not take courses for two consecutive semesters in Double Major, Second Undergraduate or Minor Programs will be deregistered from the program.
- Students who have been dismissed from Double Major, Secondary or Minor Programs for any reason cannot apply to these programs again.
- A student whose overall grade point average falls below 2.50 in the Major Undergraduate Program is dismissed from the Double Major, Secondary or Minor Programs.
- It is not possible to obtain a Double Major, Second Undergraduate Diploma or Minor Certificate without graduating from the Major Undergraduate Program.
- Major and Double Major Undergraduate diplomas are given to students who have successfully completed the Double Major Secondary Program and earned the right to two undergraduate degrees.
- Students who successfully complete the Minor Program are given a "Minor Certificate".
